Every vehicle leaves the factory with conservative ECU settings designed to meet global emissions standards, accommodate varying fuel quality, and satisfy manufacturer warranty parameters. These settings leave measurable performance on the table. ECU remapping adjusts the engine's fuelling, ignition timing, boost pressure and throttle response to unlock the engine's real capability.
Velokey provides Stage 1 ECU remapping for petrol and diesel vehicles across Bedford and Bedfordshire. Stage 1 is a software-only remap. No hardware modifications are required, making it the most accessible and cost-effective form of engine tuning. Most petrol engines see gains of 10 to 20 percent in power and torque. Diesel engines, particularly turbocharged ones, often respond even more strongly with gains of 20 to 30 percent in torque alongside improvements in fuel economy.
We use professional remapping equipment and map from verified base files, not generic off-the-shelf maps. Each remap is tailored to the individual vehicle's make, model, engine variant and mileage.
The original map is always retained and can be restored at any time. If you want to return the vehicle to stock for a service, a warranty claim, or a resale, we can reverse the remap in a single visit.

FAQs
Got a question? We're here for you!
Will a remap affect my insurance?
You are legally required to declare any modification to your insurer. Most mainstream insurers will cover a remapped vehicle, though premiums may increase slightly. We recommend checking with your insurer before booking.
Is ECU remapping reversible?
Yes. We retain the original map and can restore it at any time if required, for a service, resale, or any other reason.
What vehicles are eligible for Stage 1 remapping?
Most turbocharged petrol and diesel engines from 2000 onwards are eligible. Naturally aspirated engines have less potential for gain. Call us with your vehicle details and we will confirm suitability and expected gains.
How long does an ECU remap take?
Most remaps are completed within 1 to 2 hours on-site. We read the original map, prepare the custom file, and write it back to the ECU in a single session.
Will a remap cause reliability problems?
If the original ECU is completely dead and cannot be read, we may still be able to retrieve the data through alternative methods depending on the vehicle type. Call us to discuss your specific situation.
