An ignition barrel that is sticking, worn, or completely seized is more than an inconvenience. It can leave you stranded with a key that will not turn and an engine that will not start. At Velokey, we diagnose and repair ignition faults on-site across Bedford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Cambridge.
Our service covers ignition barrel inspection and cleaning for minor wear, barrel replacement for failed cylinders, and full ignition assembly replacement where necessary. After any barrel work, we reconfigure or re-cut your existing keys to match the new barrel so everything works together correctly.
We work on most makes and models and carry a range of replacement ignition components for common vehicles. Unlike a garage, we come to your location. You do not need to arrange recovery or lose your vehicle for a day.
Whether your ignition is worn from high mileage, damaged by a poor-quality key copy, or seized from lack of use, we carry the tools and parts to resolve it in a single visit.

FAQs
Got a question? We're here for you!
How do I know if my ignition barrel needs replacing?
Signs include a key that is difficult to turn, a key that turns but does not start the engine, a key that gets stuck and is hard to remove, or a completely seized barrel that will not accept the key at all.
Can you replace an ignition barrel without losing my existing key?
In most cases yes. We can either re-key the new barrel to match your existing key, or supply and program a new key to match the new barrel, whichever is most practical for your vehicle.
Do you repair ignitions on vans as well as cars?
Yes. We work on cars, vans, and light commercial vehicles across all major makes and models.
How long does an ignition repair take?
Most ignition barrel replacements are completed within 1 to 2 hours on-site.
Can a damaged ignition be a security risk?
Yes. A worn or damaged ignition barrel can in some cases be operated without the correct key. If your ignition shows signs of tampering or forced entry, we recommend immediate replacement and a security check.
