Key turns but engine will not start? A transponder that is not programmed to your vehicle is the most common cause. We program chip keys on-site for all major makes.

Most car keys made in the last 25 years contain a transponder chip, a small electronic component embedded in the key head that communicates with the vehicle's immobiliser. When you insert the key, the immobiliser reads the chip's code and only allows the engine to start if it matches. A key without a programmed transponder, or one programmed to a different vehicle, will turn in the ignition but the engine will not start.
Velokey provides transponder key programming across Bedford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Cambridge using dealer-level diagnostic equipment. We program new keys to your vehicle on-site, covering key adaptation, immobiliser pairing, and remote function coding where applicable.
We work on all major makes including BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Ford, Vauxhall, Volkswagen, Toyota, Nissan, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, Land Rover, Jaguar, Seat, Skoda and more. Whether you need a new key programmed alongside existing keys or a full replacement after losing all keys, we carry the equipment to complete the job at your location.
A key that has been cut to the correct profile but not programmed to your immobiliser will never start your engine, even if it looks and fits exactly like the original. Programming is the step that makes a key work, not just fit.

FAQs
Got a question? We're here for you!
What is a transponder key?
A transponder key has an electronic chip embedded in the plastic head. This chip communicates with the car's immobiliser system. Without a correctly programmed chip, the engine will not start even if the key cuts match perfectly.
Can you program a transponder key I have already had cut?
Yes, provided the key blank is the correct type for your vehicle and has not already been paired to a different car. Call us with your vehicle details and we will confirm compatibility.
How long does transponder key programming take?
Most programming jobs take 30 to 60 minutes on-site. We carry blank keys for most common vehicles so a single visit is usually all that is needed.
Can you add an extra key without the original being present?
In most cases yes. Using our diagnostic equipment connected to the vehicle's OBD port, we can add new keys to the immobiliser system without requiring the original key to be present.
My key fob buttons stopped working but the key still starts the car. Can you fix this?
If the original ECU is completely dead and cannot be read, we may still be able to retrieve the data through alternative methods depending on the vehicle type. Call us to discuss your specific situation.
